Early miles.

Honest gear.

Race days that count.

Race recaps, shoe rotations, and the honest middle of a training block — from San Diego to the start line.

New Yorker by birth,

San Diegan by choice

I'm James Ursini — husband and dad first, runner next, hospitality sales by day. I live in San Diego, train for big races, and write about what actually shows up in a training week: the shoes I rotate, the workouts that stick, and the races that teach me something.

First marathon was Sydney at 4:52:23. Next up is the New York City Marathon. If you're a runner looking for straight talk on gear and training, or a brand looking for a partner who cares about fit over volume, you're in the right place.

ABOUT

What I’m focused on

  • Group of people jogging outdoors in an urban park during the day, with a man in front wearing sunglasses and a colorful headband, trees, and a high-rise building in the background.

    Running

Race recaps, shoe rotations, training blocks, and the details that matter between start and finish. Built for runners who want useful, not viral.

  • A family of five standing together outdoors near a statue of Mary. The family consists of a man, woman, two girls, and a boy, all smiling and dressed casually. The background features trees, flowering bushes, and a building with a red-tiled roof.

    Family

Husband and dad first. The people who make the early runs and long blocks possible — and who show up in the highlights when it counts.

  • White building with the words 'HYATT REGENCY' at the top, tall palm trees in front, and a blue sky with some clouds.

    Hospitality

Group and corporate sales at Hyatt Regency La Jolla. The day job that keeps me grounded — and that brands can trust as real-world professionalism, not a side-hustle persona.
